Lake Eyre and Flinders Ranges Day trip

Departing from Broken Hill Airport, we fly over the sweeping red dunes of the Strzelecki Desert, an impressive introduction to the outback from the air. Our first highlight is Lake Frome, a vast salt lake east of the Flinders Ranges, where you’ll see stunning colours and natural salt formations from above. 

We then cross the rugged Flinders Ranges on our way to Marree, where we land briefly for fuel before continuing north. After departing Marree, we track toward the iconic Marree Man — one of the world’s largest geoglyphs, stretching 2.7 km across the desert floor and visible only from the sky. 

From here, we continue along the eastern edge of Kati Thanda–Lake Eyre, taking in extended aerial views of its immense salt flats, shifting hues, and dramatic natural patterns. We then land in Leigh Creek for lunch and a short break before beginning our return journey. On our return, we fly past the spectacular Wilpena Pound, a natural amphitheater formed over millions of years, before making our way back to Broken Hill.
